FOUNDATION

The Foundation students began worded problems for subtraction in Maths this term. Using counters and number lines has assisted the students with completing these problems. The students have also investigated varying strategies to assist with subtraction, with the main focus being the “Count back strategy”. This week the focus has been “Money” and students have been learning to identify coins and their values, and match money amounts with purchases.

I am very proud of the progress the students have made in English – their writing has come a long way since last term. It is incredible to see them using phonetics to spell words and also to apply the spelling rules taught in class.

In Health, our focus this term is on healthy foods, personal hygiene and fitness. In the last 3 weeks students learnt about the Food Pyramid and the proportion of foods that we should eat every day for good health.

There are many things the children have been excited about this term. They enjoyed the Athletics Day and still had energy at the end of the day completing laps for the Lapathon. You could see the joy on their faces each time they completed a lap. They are now eagerly waiting for the excursion to the Fauna Park, Kyabram on the 26th October and also the Awards Night coming up on the 19th of November. They have been busy practising for their item which I’m sure you will enjoy watching.

Thank you for all of your continued support with your child’s learning.

Regards,
Mrs. Tarbinder Pandher
